I confess, I am a scent control freak! But, I also admit, I am a skeptic. So, whenever I see a product that claims to fool a deer’s nose, I am always a doubter! But, this season I decided to try out one of these new products. It has been an exceptionally windy season so far, so I figured why not try it for myself? Exactly what product am I talking about? It’s Nose Jammer, specifically the 6 oz field spray.

Before we get to my thoughts on Nose Jammer, let’s take a look at their claim:

6 oz. Field Spray

“The compounds in our secret Nose Jammer formula are emitted by trees, shrubs, and grasses. Delivering these natural aromatic compounds at concentrated levels effectively jams up big game animal’s sense of smell without alarm. See what hunting is like when big game animals can’t smell.” (http://nosejammer.com/)

Next, here are the instructions from the Nose Jammer website:

When Treestand Hunting

  • Spray 3-5 seconds on your boots and pants before you walk into the woods
  • Spray a dash at the base of the tree when you arrive
  • Spray 5-7 seconds on the tree and limbs in the shape of an “X” from   over the top of your head to below your feet, this creates a Nose   Jammer cloud
  • Don’t be afraid to use a little extra on the surrounding limbs and even on your clothing
  • Generally 10 seconds of total product works best

When Spot and Stalk Hunting

  • Spray clothes, pants, and boots liberally. The goal is to create a Nose Jammer cloud that surrounds the hunter.

Adverse Weather Conditions

  • High winds or heavy precipitation can decrease the Nose Jammer cloud, to combat this we have found that you should spray a tree or brush 10 yards on each side of your setup. This will help you maintain your olfactory overload during adverse weather conditions.

Okay, so that’s what Nose Jammer has to say. But does it really work? Well, I decided to put it to the test! And, let me tell you, the weather conditions have been perfect for really testing Nose Jammer out; the winds have been whipping every day so far this season. I don’t think there has been a calm day yet!

The Test

Day 1

So, the first day that I used Nose Jammer, I went through my usual scent control routine. I took a shower using scent control shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, and then dried off with a towel that had been washed in scent control laundry detergent. I then sprayed down with scent control spray and put on my base layers of clothing, which had also been washed in the scent control laundry detergent, as all of my hunting clothes are. Then I gathered up my gear and hopped in my vehicle; I place unscented trash bags on my car seats to help prevent getting odor on my clothes (I told you I’m a scent control fanatic). Once I arrived to my hunting spot, I sprayed down with the scent control spray again and then put on the rest of my hunting clothes. I then sprayed down with the Nose Jammer; I admit that I did not follow directions exactly. I sprayed the bottom of my boots, and then sprayed myself from head to toe with the Nose Jammer field spray. I then proceeded to my stand and climbed in. I did not spray the base of the tree, or any trees or bushes on each side of my tree stand. Once I got settled, I sprayed a cloud of Nose Jammer all around me, then I just sat back and waited. And, within an hour I had 3 does and a button buck come out. Remember, it was pretty windy out, and the wind was not really in my favor. The deer walked around for a while, and then the biggest doe started sniffing and acting funny; she even did a complete circle around my tree sniffing the whole time. And, of course the 2 other does had to get in on the action, too. The button buck didn’t seem to have a care in the world; he just continued about his business not paying attention to anything else that was going on.

I confess I was nervous as the does began circling my tree and coming in closer and closer with their noses up in the air. I thought for sure I was busted! But, much to my surprise, they didn’t smell me! Those 4 deer hung around for about 25 minutes before they finally moved on. Then a little while later I had another doe come out. Again, she didn’t smell a thing; she even bedded about 5 yards in front of my stand. Not that I ever want a doe bedding next to me while I’m hunting, but I was truly impressed! I ended up having to run that doe off at the end of the hunt because she was still laying there next to my stand when I was ready to climb down.

So, that was day 1 of my Nose Jammer test, and I was really excited about the results! But, I was not convinced yet. Remember, I am a skeptic. I thought maybe it was just a fluke. I mean, could Nose Jammer really work that good? Well, let’s look at day 2 of my Nose Jammer test.

Day 2

Okay, day 2. Well, it started with a morning hunt; I got up and went through my usual scent control routine again. I did everything exactly the same as the night before, and again, the results were the same. I had deer all around me and they had no clue that I was there. I was beginning to be convinced that there was really something to the claims made by Nose Jammer.

My plans were to go back out again later that day for an evening hunt, but the winds were extremely strong and I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to sit out in those conditions. I debated all afternoon, and by the time I made up my mind, I didn’t really have time to go through my usual routine. Then I thought, why not really put Nose Jammer to the test! Yep, that’s right. I went hunting without taking my scent control shower before going out; I was going to give Nose Jammer the ultimate test. And, that’s exactly what I did. The only scent product I used for that hunt was my Nose Jammer field spray. I was breaking all the rules. I was hunting extreme winds, again, not in my favor, and I did not use any of my usual scent eliminating products.

I used the Nose Jammer exactly the same as I had the previous 2 times. I sprayed the bottom of my boots, and then sprayed myself from head to toe. I then sprayed a cloud around me once I got settled into my tree stand. The winds were a little stronger than I care for, and I had even thought about just climbing down and forgetting about the hunt. But, I wanted to put Nose Jammer to the ultimate test, so I decided to tough it out. And, again, I was not disappointed. I had deer come out, and they had no clue that I was there. I couldn’t believe it! Nose Jammer worked again! If I had gone out under these same conditions without Nose Jammer, I would have been busted. Believe me, I know, because I have been busted by deer plenty of times.

I know what you’re thinking. That’s only 3 hunts, right? Well, I could tell you about every single hunt I’ve had using Nose Jammer, but you would quickly get bored. So, just let me say, I have used Nose Jammer on every single hunt since those initial tests, and it has never let me down. And, after my rave reviews of the product, my husband also decided to put it to the test; he’s probably an even bigger skeptic than I am, but he was impressed with Nose Jammer, too. So, there you go. Nose Jammer has convinced not only one skeptic, but two.

Nose Jammer Issues

Now, don’t get me wrong, Nose Jammer works great at fooling a deer’s nose, but I did have a couple of issues with it. One, Nose Jammer has a very strong odor; luckily, it is a pleasant vanilla scent, but being an allergy sufferer, it definitely had me sneezing on the stand. So, you may want to check it out before you hit the woods, just to see how you react to it. As for me, I just take a little extra allergy medication before using it. My second issue is again related to the scent; because Nose Jammer is so sweet it seems to attract bees and other insects. This is not an issue during colder weather, but on those warm days, I definitely had bees and yellow jackets swarming around me. I’m not sure there is any way to combat that issue; I just avoid spraying around my head on those warm days, hoping to keep any stinging insects away from my face. But, if you have allergies to any of these stinging insects, you may not want to use Nose Jammer in warm weather.

Final Thoughts

Well, as for me, I will continue to use Nose Jammer on every single hunt. I am truly amazed by this product! And, even better, they have a complete line of products for all of your scent control needs. There is no need for multiple scent control and elimination products, Nose Jammer has you covered! Don’t just take my word for it, try it for yourself. I would recommend starting out with the Nose Jammer Pro-Pack, which contains

Of course, if you don’t want to spend much until you decide if you like it or not, I completely understand. After all, that’s what I did. I started out with just using the 6 oz aerosol field spray. Or, you can start with the 2 oz field spray if you really want to go cheap. However, I now love Nose Jammer so much that I use their complete line of products!

If you have already tried Nose Jammer, tell me what you think. Were you as impressed as I was? Or, did you have different results? I would love to hear your reviews and thoughts on this product!
